An inspiring Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Quantum Mechanics and the Nature of Reality” was conducted by Rev. Fr. Dr. Mathew Chandrankunnel, CMI, Consultant at JIS University, Kolkata, at Christ College Campus, Rajkot.
A renowned Quantum Scientist, philosopher, and theologian, Rev. Fr. Dr. Chandrankunnel has worked extensively on the foundational problems in Quantum Mechanics and authored several books on science, philosophy, and spirituality. His vision of building a “Quantum Knowledge Corridor” aims to shape a future rooted in wisdom and discovery.
Father began the session by tracing the history of Quantum Mechanics, narrating its evolution as an engaging story filled with the breakthroughs of great scientists. He illustrated each theory with fascinating real-life examples, explaining complex ideas such as Schrödinger’s Equation, Planck’s Constant, and Einstein’s Mass-Energy Equivalence in relatable terms.
He also discussed the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics, awarded to John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret, and John M. Martinis for their discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in electric circuits, simplifying these ideas for broader understanding.
The session beautifully intertwined science, philosophy, and faith, offering participants a profound perspective on how scientific exploration connects with the search for meaning in human life.
