Cancer Awareness

Cancer awareness is the key to early detection and to better health of the society. Cancer is quite common in both developing as well as developed countries, but awareness is yet poor among the general population.

Department of Biotechnology, Christ College Rajkot in collaboration with Rajkot Cancer Hospital (RCH) and Kundaria Cancer Prevention Foundation (KCPF) organized Cancer Awareness Program on 26th June 2023. The objective of the program is to create awareness of Cancer among students so that they may contribute to the fight against this fatal disease. Shri Shantibhai Faldu - vice chairman of KCPF and social worker, Shri Kishorbhai Kundaria – Trustee of KCPF, and Dr. Radhika Javia Medical Officier attended the program. An expert talk was delivered by Dr. Radhika Javia on various types of Cancers, their causes, and preventive measures which include Oral Cancer, Breast Cancer, and Cervical cancer. Cervical Cancer is the 2^nd most common cancer in Indian women between 15 and 44 years of age. It caused 60070ndeaths in India in 2018. According to the journal Lancet Global Health, India recorded the highest estimated number of cervical cancer deaths Displaying slides, she rolled out statistics to prove the alarming increase in cancer cases in recent years. Ms. Jayshree Godhaniya, a Medical associate at BT Savani Hospital also brief us about the problems related to kidneys and how to live a healthy lifestyle. The program was well received by all and was very useful. Kundaria Foundation also organized free Hemoglobin tests for all female college students. Over 150 students appeared for the test and medicines were also distributed for students having low Hemoglobin.
