Christ College, Rajkot conducted “out-reach” activity organised by Guha Research Conference (GRC). The Main aim of the workshop was to promote the interaction of eminent GRC-Scientists with young student minds in order to stimulate them towards the recent excitements of Science and Modern Biology.

As brief description of Guha Research Conference (GRC) was established in 1960 after Professor BC Guha, an eminent Indian Biologist, to catalyse BioMedical research in the country. GRC comprises of about 160 eminent scientists (comprising of Padma Bhushan, Padmashri, SS Bhatnagar etc., awardees of the country) across all age-groups, elected based on their high academic credentials. 53rd Guha Research Conference, a scientific conference in Modern Biomedical Research is being held at Diu-island and some parts of Gujarat, during Dec 8-11 Dec 2016 (GRC2016).

In Christ College, Rajkot two eminent Scientist; Professor Rakesh Mishra, Director of centre for cellular and molecular biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, and Professor Hari Misra, Head Molecular Biology Division, BARC, Mumbai shared exciting discoveries of Biology in this half-day workshop. They interacted with more than 200 science students of various faculties.

Professor Rakesh Mishra delivered a talk on “What I found Amazing in life?” He spoke about evolution of cells, structural and functional similarities between flies and human being. His talk was focused on his main research work that is understanding how information is encoded in genomes and expressed in regulated manner during development and its interaction with the environment. It is an important area of research being carried out at CCMB.

Professor HS Misra, convener of GRC 2016 delivered a talk on history of GRC, Microarray technology and his research work on “Deinococcus radiodurans: its radiation resistance and beyond”.
