Orientation For Freshers 2016-17

An orientation programme was conducted for Semester 1 students on 20th June 2016 at 9 a.m.in the Conference hall of the College.  There was a prayer service that was performed by the students to mark an auspicious beginning. This was followed by a lamp lighting ceremony by the Chief Guest, Dr. Ambasana, Campus Director, Fr. Benny, Principal, Dr. Fernandes, Fr. Anish and selected students of each department and an address by the Campus Director, Fr. Benny and Principal, Dr. Yvonne Fernandes.

As Chief Guest Dr. Anil Ambasana, Ex Professor and Head of Department of Education, Saurashtra University was invited to motivate the students towards a holistic development as the key to success in today’s competitive environment.  He identified four key factors that would make a student’s college life more meaningful. The four variables emphasized by him were Learning, environment, experience and adaptability. He emphasized on the importance of learning in class as well as from all possible sources such as library references, conferences, research journals and any other possible source. He highlighted the importance of learning beyond the books and cited some life examples to endorse his ideas. He clearly explained the difference between class room learners and independent learners and the benefits enjoyed by independent learners.

He also described the importance of academic environment provided by the College and the contribution of students in maintaining it. Participation in various activities of the College was also discussed by him as the platform and opportunity for overall development of the students. He encouraged the students to introspect and know themselves and their capabilities and use them to build their campus experience as well as experience in their professional field through projects and internships and narrated how this experience would help them during their campus placements in running their family businesses.

The last factor that discussed was building the capacity to cope up with the changing environment and making themselves ready for the changing market demands. He also expressed the need to build spiritual quotient and emotional intelligence which would be their strengths in times of adversity at any stage of life. A humorous, interactive and illustrative session by Dr. Ambasana was positively received by the new students.

The second part of the session started at 10.45 am and  was dedicated to an Orientation on the History of the College, its vision and mission , management body , its achievements, courses offered , facilities, welfare mechanisms for students, clubs and associations and their activities, institutional events for the current academic year, rules and regulations to be followed as students  and the CBCS system including the pattern of evaluation – internal as well as external and assessment system. This session was conducted by Ms. Tisha Roy and Dr. Swati Doshi. All the students of first year/ freshers’ from Departments of Science – A and B groups, Computer Applications, Commerce, Business Administration and Arts attended it.
