Bridge course 2017-18

To bridge the language gap among the first year students a bridge course is conducted for all the first year students in two groups. The groups are formed based on the exposure to the medium of instruction in school. Accordingly students are divided into one group who has completed 10+ 2 with Gujarati as the medium of instruction and another group that has completed schooling with English as the medium of instruction.

This year it was conducted for three days from 3rd July to 7th July 2017. Students of all the faculties namely Commerce, Management, Computer Applications, Science- A and B groups and Arts participated in the sessions conducted from 10.00 to 11.30a.m. The entire programme was coordinated by Dr. Swati Doshi and Mr. Gaurav Vora from the Department of Commerce.

A treasure hunt was organised on 8th July for all the students of Semester 1 to familiarize the new students with the College campus and the various departments and facilities on the campus. This activity was conducted by Mr. Gaurav Vora, Mr. Jagrut Tripati and Ms. Pintu Bera with support from the entire staff.

For the first semester English medium students of the college the bridge course was conducted by Sr. Daya, Mr. Abhijitsinh Vala and Ms. Tosha Joshi and 192 students attended these sessions. The objective was to familiarize them with each other and enable them to channelize their talents and make optimum use of their capabilities on the campus in three years.. The session comprised of activities where students familiarized themselves with each other on Day 1 by a session conducted by Sr. Daya and a team game where groups were to be formed alphabetically in order to make mixed groups and then they introduced themselves in each group they joined. Later a few participants introduced as many members as they recalled from different groups that they got introduced to. After the ice breaking session on interpersonal skills there was a session on Team Building by Mr. Abhijitsinh Vala on Day 2. An activity filled session motivated the students to work together on campus. The third day’s session was conducted by Ms. Tosha Joshi on Art of making Effective Presentation where all the students were demonstrated how to make formal presentation , using certain fonts, font size, colour scheme , layout and theme of slide , inserting pictures, videos in the presentation. Using various software other than Microsoft power point were also demonstrated. Then they were guided on formatting word documents for formal submissions, research papers and projects.
