“It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it & remove all doubt” – says famous American humorist Mark Twain. Public Speaking is an Art. The Art to make people believe in whatever you say, think or speak. It is one of the powerful weapon of the world in order to win anything and everything. Those who master such an art, are the leaders who rule the world.

With such a vision, THE TIMES OF INDIA, in collaboration with ‘Torrent Power’ organized The Times Public Speaking Contest for college students. With an attractive cash prizes of over ₹ 3lakhs, the competition was open for entire Gujarat. A one-minute video was to be recorded by students speaking on a topic for the auditions. Out of the thousands of videos received, hundred speakers were selected for the regional round. Regional rounds were conducted in four cities - Rajkot, Baroda, Surat and Ahmedabad wherein the participants underwent a rigorous selection process, consisting of more than ten slots of Group Discussion each, to finalize the Top 20 speakers of the respective zones.

The regional round for Rajkot Zone was held on November 23, 2016 at The Imperial Palace, Rajkot, wherein seven students from Christ College were selected to participate to showcase their speaking skills.

Out of these, five Christites (Bhushan Manik – FYBA, Priyanka Premani – SYBSc, Bhoomika Goswami – TYBA, Manali Galani – TYBBA, Ishita Sagar – TYBSc) made it to the Top 20 speakers of Rajkot zone at the end of a challenging selection procedure. They were called for the evening round of Public Speaking Contest to put forward their views on the hot & burning topics related to daily life scenario, through picking up chits. The Judges for the event were eminent academicians and great personalities of the city.
